Business Intelligence BI

A set of tools and practices for turning operational data into actionable information for decision-making.

Full definition

Business Intelligence (BI) is the discipline that turns raw operational data into actionable information for decision-making. It covers three distinct moments: data collection and cleansing (ETL/ELT from ERPs, POSs, CRMs, spreadsheets, legacy systems), structuring in a data warehouse or data lake, and visualisation in dashboards that decision-makers use day to day.

The classic problem with BI projects is over-ambition. People try to build the 'perfect dashboard' that covers everything; it takes 12 months, and by the time it goes live it no longer reflects a reality that has changed. The approach that works is the opposite: start with pre-built models that directors recognise in the first minute, and customise only what the field asks for.

MyBusiness-ITV by INFOS is built on Qlik Sense, one of the world's market-leading BI platforms, with an associative engine that allows free exploration of the data without pre-defining every query. The pre-built models (order book, stock turnover, current accounts, margin) come calibrated from INFOS's experience across hundreds of implementations. Deep customisation is possible via Qlik for client-specific scenarios.
