MRP (Material Requirements Planning) is the heart of industrial planning. Starting from customer orders or a sales forecast, it breaks each finished product down into its bill of materials, cross-references current stock and the lead times for purchasing and production, and determines: what to order from the supplier, when and in what quantity; what to produce internally, in what sequence, at which workstations.
Modern MRP (MRP II and ERP) goes further: it incorporates machine and labour capacity, supplier limits, dynamic pricing and intelligent replenishment rules. Poorly configured, it produces excess stock or shortages; well configured, it is the basis of an operation where stockouts and overstock are no longer surprises.
In the MULTI ERP by INFOS, MRP is integrated with production, purchasing, stock and treasury — a shortage alert informs the planner, the buyer and finance at the same time. For companies with a subcontracting chain, MRP cross-references the Portal dos Subcontratados to project the availability of the external producer.
