SKU Stock Keeping Unit

The unique identifier of an article in a given combination (colour, size, variant), used in stock and sales.

Full definition

The SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is the unique identifier of an article in a specific combination of characteristics — colour, size, batch, variant, packaging. A white T-shirt in size M is one SKU; the same white T-shirt in size L is another SKU; the same black T-shirt in size M is yet another. For a textile brand with 50 models × 5 colours × 6 sizes, the catalogue can easily reach 1,500 SKUs.

SKU management defines the quality of a retail and distribution operation. A poorly designed SKU (inconsistent nomenclature, duplicate barcodes, no hierarchy) spreads confusion into receiving, inventories, sales and BI. A catalogue with well-designed SKUs allows analysis by colour, by size, by model, by collection, without later hacks.

The MULTI ERP by INFOS was designed with the article-colour-size-batch matrix as its core structure — not a custom extension. MAXIRETAIL and KORA Inventory operate on this matrix effortlessly, enabling cycle counts by colour, turnover by size, and sales analysis by variant.
